Folio, contemporary blind-tooled calf over pasteboard, worn, spine missing portions of leather in a few places, damaged at bottom and repaired at top; some light marginal dampstaining, minor worming in blank margins, title soiled, with Greek inscription by Archimandrite Germanos dated 1728 and later stamps, early owner's annotations in Greek on rear endleaves, front free endpaper lacking. first collected edition of the writings of St. Simeon of Thessalonica (d. 1429), "one of the most influential authors of his age. His principal work is a 'Dialogue against all Heresies . . . ' which reflects his predominating interest in the mystical interpretation of the Byzantine cultus . . . Among his other works are a treatise 'On the Holy Temple' . . . also mainly a symbolical explanation of the ritual, and an exposition of the Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed" (ODCC).
